I look at pics of old houses (Ok, I'll call them pre-loved) and I think...what in **** can I do with this? Do you realise how many ugly houses are out there?!

This kitchen make-over makes me realise it IS possible! Give me strength...

I don't know if you are supposed to attach this to the wall or if it could be on the floor, but I think I would have it on the floor as a little patch of grass as that something unusual that bring the outside-inside.

This French website is SO good!!!! Love it all, but I'll give you my highlights.

Everyone needs hooks on the wall to hang stuff - but this ribbon is just awesome!! I love the simplicity of it. It appears just 'to be'. But its so functional - instead of a row of standard hooks, every bit is different and would be so useful for everything from a coat, to a hat to a bag. Every house needs one of these!

OMG I love these lights.

I have determined that I LOVE quirky. Am I brave enough to use these? I hope so.

Growing up I lived in a house that was very warm and happy - but lacked personality - neutral coloured walls that became a dull pastel yellow colour, pictures in frames that were inherited or bought from some shop somewhere that meant absolutely nothing. I want to break free from this.

Wouldn't it be nice to have people around that comment on things in your house and are genuinely interested in the 'different' things you have incorporated?

I think you need to have a sense of humour in your surroundings. The Joker said it best in Batman... "Why so serious?"

...and you can see why...so much timber! Hope its from those renewable farms!!

But as much as I am thinking of those poor trees - its oh so preddy!!!

The soft sand-coloured wood is so light and it feels so close to nature. It would be at home near the beach, or in a forest. It brings a really organic feeling of outside - inside.

They have gone that one step further and put what looks like timber flooring on the walls - it sure looks different and nothing like that fake wood paneling that Nanna used to have!

Off the point a little, but... I want windows! Lots and lots of windows!

Loving the feel of dark wood with the black and white interior. It feels so ultra modern. And what is it with these artworks!!?? The yellow canvas (with black border) is so simple - I don't think I would ever consider it - but it works so well in this space! Bravo! Add that to the memory bank!

Doesn't the floor make you feel like the dining set has just risen out of it? I can't imagine anything else belonging in this space, more than this.

On the ceiling!? I feel like this room is all topsy turvy!! But its strangely alluring...

don't be afraid of the dark side

We think walls - we think neutral... sure you can have a feature wall - but how many of us will actually stray to the dark side? Its a risk....

So.. LOVING the courage this home owner has shown - mixing grey walls with timber floors...brilliant! And matching the grey walls with the curtains looks great (I would have fretted over there being too much grey but I think they have pulled it off nicely!)
