bathroom - be inspired!

Oh, look! A bathroom that isn't stark white, or covered in pictures of seashells or one with outdated tiles the colour of tacky lavender, orange or baby poo yellow!!

That reminds me - you can use different tones in your bathroom to compliment without being too matchy matchy. Example - when I was a little girl I came across a woman's bathroom that was lavender - ALL LAVENDER! I am talking the toilet, the toilet seat cover, the sink, the bath, the tiles - EVERYTHING! I am sure that no plumber/tiler would allow for such a crime to happen today, but none the less - they are out there! Take a moment to think if you are searching for a home on one of the real estate websites and they put pictures up of every room, except the bathroom... will the lavender bathroom be waiting for you?

Its like people get to the bathroom and say: toilet - check, shower - check, bath - check, sink - check - and THAT'S IT! Where's the creativity people!?

I think we all know people (we may even be one of those people) that complain about their bathroom. Maybe the size of it is not something we can easily change, but if its not functional - its no good! How much time do we spend in the bathroom? It's worthwhile to have what you want!

This one reminds me of a modern japanese bath house. I wonder if that was the look they were going for? I love the look of wooden elements in the bathroom. I am not sure how practical it would be - you would imagine there would be issues with water and steam rotting the timber prematurely? But if you can seal timber homes against the elements, it must be ok?! I mean, you can get some pretty good exhaust fans for the bathroom now...

I have died, gone to heaven and woken up in an earthy, warm room with shades of timber and stone. I LOVE this bathroom! Is it so wrong of me to lust after such a gorgeous room? Makes our current bathroom look c.r.a.p! How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

  1. stone on walls...mmm...
  2. timber floors? WOW - how can I make this happen?
  3. dark timber - so different to your average bathroom. No ho-hum!
  4. bath not attached to wall - space is your friend
  5. couple sinks - I bet the guy that invented those had a long and happy marriage!
  6. sinks - look like bowls sitting on a bench - how classy!
  7. Shower not surrounded by a glass tomb - thank you! Nobody likes cleaning the streaks, but everyone gets glass...whats with that?!
  8. The accent colours - a green wash in the shower, a metallic bronze in the toilet. Who would have thought!?

Don't be afraid of a splash of colour! The towels don't have to be white to match the walls! Match the colour against the same shade somewhere else in the room! The cheapest way to update that stark white bathroom? It looks very modern, young and fresh.

Its like the outside is inside. Pity you couldn't open slats on the side in the modern house - not enough space between you and the neighbours! That would give them quite a shock! Don't know how practical this one is - pebbles are beautiful but maybe the most you would be able to do with those is pile them up in a vase?

Allworth Homes

1 storey - 4 bedrooms - 2 bathrooms - 2 carspaces

11.40m wide - 25.20m deep (22.910 with optional alfresco)
land width required 14.04m

This has a similar style to the Kenthurst from Clarendon, although this Allworth one has an extra room leisure, home theatre AND living.

Why am I more drawn to the other homes over this one? I think I am a sucker for good pics! The others had such preddy pics of the rooms all decorated... No, I must be strong!

Metricon

Ok, I am officially off in la-la land now because Metricon looks quite $pricey$ - but this blog isn't about realism. Its about inspiration and research and part of my research is looking at gorgeous houses! Whose to say that I won't see things in houses that are out of my price range that could be appropriated into a cheaper option, or which will inspire me further in other areas! To the nay-sayers I say :oP

All the pics are in flash - except for one pics for each home - so I can't publish the floor plan and other pics like I did last time :o(

I'll just put the links in so you can have a better look. Remember - there are several facades for each design!!

These homes are so delicious (if I am allowed to describe them that way)! They look warm and inviting, modern with some classic lines and they're not ho-hum! They're different! Not the cloned little homes that are out there at the moment!

There are also double storey homes offered by Metricon, but we are only interested in single storey presently.

georg jensen

The other love of my life (abeit a dead one)!

The Danish house's inspired craftsmen continue the tradition of Georg Jensen (1866-1935) - the silversmith and sculptor whose items became an instant success, sought after throughout the world.

Each item is so simple and seemingly fluid with nature, it can't help being beautiful beyond belief.

I am lucky enough to own the Spin tray/bowl (thank you to my gorgeous cousin and friend!). I can't wait to have our own home so I can give it pride of place!

The gentle curves of each item is breathtaking.. The tray (above) that looks like scrunched paper is so amazing. I haven't seen it before today...but I want one! And the Bloom handholders are so preddy in real life! I've seen them in the executive club at Sheraton On The Park, Sydney. The light bounces off the silver and they look stunning! The pieces are all quite heavy.

Ok, I just can't keep going on about house stuff when there are so many other beautiful things at Georg! My dream is to own the iconic Vivianna bangle watch with the mirror face dial.

It was designed and created by the female silversmith Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe. She was invited to take part in an exhibition Antagonism II – l’object in 1962 at the Musée des Arts Décoratif at the Louvre where she exhibited an organically swung open bangle with a mirror face devoid of numbers and only a seconds hand. Georg Jensen included this watch to the collection in a more user-friendly version with hour and minute hands incorporating the functionality of a watch and the beauty of a piece of jewellery.

I would love love to have an original with only the seconds hand - wearing watches makes me feel as though time has control of me, not the other way around. I feel that Vivianna was onto something...

love this ground!

The checkerboard of pavers and grass is amazing! Imagine this out in your entertaining area... mmm... you could have big chess pieces and play a game on it! Got a feeling that mowing it would be difficult though... It feels modern, classic and a little bit French - all in one. Your courtyard would look fabulous!

DNA Art

I have been loving DNA art ever since I saw it in the flight magazine on a plane. Art really couldn't get more personal than this!

So many colours and styles! Who knows what the colour scheme of our home will be, but I have to give some pics because I work with visuals! I am leaning towards neutral colours, but I've thrown in some preddy colours as well.

Now to the nitty gritty... how do they do it?

They provide you with a kit to get started, you use a swap to rub the inside of your cheek (just like they do on C.S.I.!!) The image on your DNA Art™ is acheived by creating a DNA profile. DNA fragments are tagged with fluorescent dyes and literally photographed. The result is a series of bands and highlights. Its YOUR art!!

I think I would get it on stretched canvas, but there are other options too! You can even get prints with the DNA of multiple people! But, I think we would probably get seperate canvases.

The Clarendon 'Kenthurst'

I heart this house!

1 storey - 4 bedrooms - 2 bathrooms - 2 carspaces

12.2m width - 19.7m depth

Fairly open plan and oh so preddy!

My facades in order of love love

1. Most love love - The Metro

2. Contemporary

 3. Boutique

4. Gallery

5. Traditional

Is it wrong of me to prefer every facade over the Traditional one? Does that mean I have expensive tastes? I have a feeling deep down that it does. I am a little scared to look at the actual pricing now... ill check out the rest of the website later...

Lets dream about the interior instead!!

I love love the timber floors, neutral colour scheme, the holes in the wall between the family room and the living room so the rooms aren't too divided, a kitchen that is open to the lounge and dining area. I know I have expensive dreams when I lust over the sliding glass doors that open onto the alfresco area. They are so preddy! Imagine having breakfast outside... I love how the doors open right up so the alresco area becomes a continuation of the house. All the rooms meld into one. Ahhhhh...
